More about the change of email servers
Update March 28. The transition seems to be going well. Several molloys.org users report receiving and sending their email via the Gmail server/interface. If this is the case for you, please discontinue using the old (Deskpilot) interface. The transition from the old molloys.org email server to the new Google Mail (GMail) email server began on Monday, March 27, 2006. The transition may take as long as 3-5 days. Your email address remains the same (yourname@molloys.org). You do not need to notify anyone about this change, as your email address itself is not changing -- only the server used to store/access your email. During this transition, your email could arrive on the old server or the new server. If you want to make sure you have the latest emails, you should check your mail in either or both locations. To check your email on the new server, go here: https://mail.google.com/hosted/molloys.org/ (You may want to add this URL to your bookmarks or drag the above link to your desktop.) Use the default password for your account you received in a previous email. You will be asked to change this password first thing. To check your email on the old server, go here: http://206.40.48.151/ (use your complete email address and password) After the transition period, you should only need to go to the GMail site to pick up your email. During the transition, you may find that you can receive email via the GMail server, but you can't send email out. Hopefully, this won't last too long. You should still be able to send email from your old account. Several users have successfully used the GMail server/account to send out email. As soon as you can send email from the new Gmail email account/server, you should stop using the old Deskpilot interface, including accessing this account from Outlook or other mail programs. Please note that this transition will not move any email you have saved in your molloys.org account via the old web interface. Once the transition is done, all email sent to you should be at the Gmail server location. After that, if you don't care for the GMail web interface, you can configure GMail to work with your email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Thunderbird, etc.) via POP Access. Or, you can set up Gmail to not store any of your email and simply forward it to another email account of your choosing. If you had a "forward" on your molloys.org account (forwarding all email to another address), you will need to configure your new Gmail account. The same is true if you had an email signature, filters, autoresponder, vacation message, etc. I will post any further updates here.
